GB Park and Pipe snowboarders ready for World Cup
GB Park and Pipe snowboarders are set for this winter's first Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup, which will be staged during the bi-annual Winter Games NZ in Cardrona.
The event follows the Ski Halfpipe World Cup which ran today. After yesterday’s qualifying rounds were called off due to low visibility, today began with qualifying heats for the 35 Men with the top ten through to finals, and the 30 women going straight to finals. In the Ladies’, Molly Summerhayes finished 17th overall, and Madi Rowlands 28th. The podium was made up of Canada’s Cassie Sharpe taking first, 15 year old Kelly Sildaru (EST) in second, and Marie Martinod, from France, third.
In the men’s, Pete Speight finished 18th, Murray Buchan 22nd, and Alexander Glavatsky Yeadon returning from injury placed 35thmeaning they did not progress to finals. The top podium spot was taken by USA’s Alex Ferreira, Kevin Rolland (FRA) was second and Simon D’Artois (CAN) third.
Snowboard World Cup Qualification begins on Sunday 3rd September with finals on Monday 4th September on the creative Slopestyle course, which has been shaped by moving tons of snow in and around Cardrona’s snowpark.
GB Park and Pipe’s Katie Ormerod and Aimee Fuller will line up against a star-studded field in the women’s competition, which also features reigning Olympic champion Jamie Anderson (USA) and Big Air World Champion Anna Gasser (AUT).
In the men’s competition, Billy Morgan, Jamie Nicholls, Rowan Coultas and Matt McCormick, will go up against the likes of two-time World Champion Seppe Smits (BEL) and 2017 Crystal Glove winner Red Gerard (USA).
The Winter Games NZ World Cup is one of three remaining slopestyle competitions prior to the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
