Encouraging female riders to get together and celebrate their love for the mountain lifestyle by taking the mountains by storm for one day across the country.

Non-profit organization, SheJumps spearheaded by professional skiers Claire Smallwood, Lynsey Dyer and Vanessa Pierce, aims to increase female participation in outdoor activities by building upon a supportive community that inspires its members to reach their highest potential.

In February 2012 SheJumps.org announced Get The Girls Out (GTGO), “a campaign to bring the community of female skiers and snowboarders together on mountains across the country, if not the world, for one day”.

The initial event was organized by SheJumps volunteer and pro skier Sierra Quitiquit and Lynsey Dyer in Jackson Hole, where the now well-known video was born.  With the momentum from that event SheJumps scheduled February 11th, 2012 as the first widespread campaign, and word spread quickly. By the time the Get The Girls Out day rolled around, 25 ski areas across North America had joined in on the campaign.

"There is no better phrase than "snowball effect" to describe how the event took off. Within 72 hours of posting the idea, we had 25 resorts participating with turnouts of anywhere from 2 to upwards of 35 females skiing and snowboarding on various mountains across the country and in Canada. As we turn to another winter season, we are only looking forward to more women finding the joy of riding together in the mountains with more Get the Girls Out days, especially starting with New Zealand." -SheJumps Executive Director Claire Smallwood.

Seeing the success of the North American Get The Girls Out campaign, Wendy van Dijk from NZSki approached SheJumps with a plan to support the mission and bring Get The Girls Out to the Southern Hemisphere, starting with New Zealand.

At least eight ski areas across New Zealand have so far signed up and will host a Get the Girls Out day on Saturday 22nd of September 2012. The ski areas hosting include Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt, The Remarkables, Treble Cone, Porters, Mt Ruapehu, Broken River and Mt Olympus.

The day is designed to be an informal gathering of female skiers and boarders of any ability level who just want to get out there and have fun together shredding the mountain. Daughters, sisters, friends, mothers, girlfriends, everyone can join in at their local mountain! Costumes and fancy dress is encouraged, but not compulsory.

A valid day lift pass or season pass is required at the ski areas.
