Inghams and Santa’s Lapland Root Nature at the Heart of Impact Initiatives with New 2030 Action Plan
This week, travel operators Inghams and Santa’s Lapland have published an integrated Nature and Climate Action Plan 2030.
With the single, unifying goal of championing the great outdoors, the plan sets to accelerate the brands climate action of recent years whilst also addressing wider biodiversity impacts and opportunities. The transition plan is a bold commitment to respect, reduce, reconnect and replenish the great outdoors, supported by a 10-step roadmap for positive action on nature.
Recognising that the health of nature supports the stability of our climate and the wellbeing of communities, Inghams and Santa’s Lapland are now placing nature at the heart of their impact and sustainability work. Working alongside conservation consultancy Biodiversify, the brands conducted a high-level biodiversity materiality assessment in early 2025, identifying the business’s dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities for nature. As part of the resulting plan, the brands have also committed 10% of annual profits to impact initiatives and partnerships.
Key highlights from the Nature and Climate Action Plan include:
- Establishing a Grounded Voices Advisory Board to hold leaders to account on behalf of nature.
- Expanding nature recovery work with new local projects close to destinations.
- Improving access to nature for underrepresented communities via partnerships.
- Continued investment in Inghams Ski and Inghams Walking rail programme for both customer and employee travel.
- Extending the portfolio of nature-centred activities for richer, deeper connections to nature.
- Launching accessibility guides for those with sensory or mobility requirements and continuing to employ British Sign Language (BSL) trained Santa’s Lapland Rangers.
- Reducing food waste and energy use across Inghams Ski chalets.
- Encouraging 50% employee uptake of volunteer days for local community and nature-based projects
- Using citizen science to map bird life diversity in and around resorts by employees and seasonal staff.
- Investing in carbon removals, with over half of contracted removals supporting nature-based solutions.
‘Our holidays are rooted in time spent in the great outdoors, and our teams are passionate about the natural world that makes these experiences so special,’ comments John Mansell, Managing Director of Inghams and Santa’s Lapland.
‘We know that our business relies on the natural environments our guests love to explore, which is why we’re committed to helping to keep these places thriving.
Our Nature & Climate Action Plan 2030 builds on and accelerates our impact reduction work that’s already begun. It sets out how we’ll reduce our impact, support the restoration of natural environments, and strengthen the connection between people and the outdoors. Looking after nature isn’t just part of our purpose, it’s essential to the future of our holidays and the places that inspire them.”
Inghams and Santa’s Lapland’s 10-step plan is categorised under four key promises
Progress on each step is tracked using a transparent traffic light system, highlighting actions already underway, those in progress, and those planned for the future. The actions are underpinned by the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), adopted in December 2022 at COP15, with the plan focussing on eight of the 23 targets for 2030. Updates on progress will be published annually in the form of an Impact Report
