It’s go time for the 2019 Jamboree
It’s that time of year again when spring comes knocking at the door and the world’s elite athletes hit the Big Air ramp in Quebec City for the FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Cup Finals.
That’s right, the Jamboree, in collaboration with Vidéotron is back with another spring in its step to wow the crowds downtown at L’Îlot Fleurie this March 15–17.
“We’re so excited to roll out the red carpet for more than 75 athletes from around 20 different countries. This is the 20th time we’ve organized a Snowboard World Cup event in the area, but it’s just as exhilarating an experience as it was the very first time,” said Chantal Lachance, Vice-President of Marketing and Production for event producer Gestev.
Local favourites Laurie Blouin (snowboard, Stoneham) and Alex Beaulieu-Marchand (ski, Quebec City) both delivered stellar performances at the 2019 X-Games and will be lining up here on the ramp, hoping to top the podium on home snow. Other Quebec athletes competing include Francis Jobin (snowboard, Quebec City), Philippe Langevin (ski, Mont-Tremblant), Marguerite Sweeney (snowboard, St-Basile-de-Portneuf) and Océane Fillion (snowboard, Saguenay), to name but a few.
Some of the elite international athletes in attendance include Mathilde Gremaud (ski, Switzerland) and Birk Ruud (ski, Norvège), both Big Air gold medallists at the last X-Games, and reigning World Champion Fabian Boesch (ski, Switzerland). The sheer calibre of the competition here is sure to knock the socks off the thousands of spectators expected here in Quebec City, and they’ll also get to see which of these athletes get to be crowned the 2019 season world champions and take home one of the coveted crystal Globes after the medal ceremony.
The FIS Freeski Big Air World Cup Finals kick off this Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., and the snowboard competition goes down later that evening from 8 p.m. onward.
Jamboree has way more for everyone than “just” World Cup action!
Besides the four FIS Big Air World Cup Finals competitions, the Jamboree has plenty to keep the whole family smiling. On the Saturday, the Mazda Super Grom presented by the Quebec Snowboard Association will be here onsite with a mini Big Air to give young rippers with some snowboarding experience the chance to try this kind of module in an urban setting.
And let’s not forget the ever-popular Downtown Mountain in collaboration with Tim Hortons and backed by Burton and the Association of Quebec Ski Resorts, where kids age 4 to 8 can try snowboarding or skiing on a special urban bunny hill. This free activity is open to the public on Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, March 17 from
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Visitors can also enjoy some snowy thrills and spills in the tubing park presented by the Government of Quebec and take a snowskate for a spin in theSport Radical Skate Park. Fans can also look forward too a special autograph signing session with the Canadian team at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the lower part of the Super Grom area.
Older revellers can check out the Bud Light Party Zone for the best views of all the action, complete with food trucks, bars, exhibitors galore and fire pits for warming up those chilly hands. This is where Alaclair Ensemble will be taking to the stage to deliver a special Jamboree live music show on Saturday, starting at 7 p.m. And with the UNMARKED video contest presented by Vidéotron screening at 6 p.m., spectators in the party zone get to feast their eyes on seven short ski and snowboard adventure films where the star of the show is the famous Quebec backcountry terrain. And last but not least, once the competitions are a wrap, revellers can party on into the night at the official event after-party at London Jack, starting at 10 p.m.
