The Penkenbahn is much more than just a new cable car. It is faster, more comfortable and more economic than the predecessor model. The new 3S Penkenbahn in Mayrhofen features state-of-the-art technology and a pioneering mobility concept. For winter sport enthusiasts in Mayrhofen, the mountain experience already begins with the ascent to the mountain station. The cable car will begin operation with the opening event on 19. December 2015.

 

Mayrhofen is no standard ski resort. That’s why the new Penkenbahn is also no standard cable car. Located in the middle of Mayrhofen at the heart of the Zillertal valley, a village which can be both cool and trendy as well as classically Tyrolean, the ultra-modern triple-cable ropeway will set new standards this winter. Right in the centre of the village, guests climb aboard one of the 33 high-tech gondolas, each comprising 24 comfortable seats and offering excellent wifi reception. They are then whisked up Penken Mountain in only eight minutes. At an elevation of 1,790 meters, they are welcomed by the wide range of activities available on Action Mountain Penken with the legendary Harakiri and the Vans Penken Park, one of the best snow parks in Europe. The new cable car is faster, more comfortable and more efficient than its predecessor. The cable car’s transport capacity was increased from 2,000 to 3,840 passengers per hour. Long waiting times are a thing of the past. Travelling a horizontal distance of 2,645 metres, the cable car covers an elevation difference of 1,146 metres. The comfort features are at least as impressive as the technology itself. Children’s ski schools have their own access and guests can store their skis and equipment in the generous depots at the bottom and mountain station. Following the construction of two additional bridges in the town, the ski bus network has become even more attractive.

 

OPENING EVENT AND RISE&FALL – TWO GREAT REASONS TO CELEBRATE

The new Penkenbahn opening event will be staged on 19. December from 6.00 pm featuring hot spots near by the Penkenbahn valley station. And if that isn’t enough, the RISE&FALL cult event will take place on the same day. RISE&FALL is probably the most spectacular winter sports event in the Alps. It involves teams of four battling it out in a contest that features the disciplines of ski touring, paragliding and mountain biking as well as skiing or snowboarding. All teams have to master 430 metres of elevation difference – two go up and two come down. Whoever reaches the finish line first takes the victory for the team.
