A fire broke out at the Ski Village in the early hours of Sunday morning. The effects have devastated the main building and also destroyed the on site Snow and Rock store The news came as shock to many British riders who have fond memories of the Ski Village, one of Britain's best dryslopes.

Speaking on the event the Ski Village left the following comment:

"The Ski Village Management are saddened to confirm that the main building at the Ski Village has been devastated by fire and the site is closed. Customers with enquiries should email:[email protected] or visit www.sheffieldskivillage.co.uk for updates."

Speaking about the fire Incident Commander Stuart Nicholson commented “We suspect acetylene cylinders are inside the building but we have not confirmed yet if we have been able to put water on the cylinders. We are pumping around 3,000 litres of water per minute onto the fire from the River Don and have all but extinguished the flames.

”There is very little remaining of the building. It could be a further 24 hours before we can get closer to the site to carry out our investigation because of the risk of cylinders being involved in fire.”
