33 intrepid skiers and snowboarders have successfully completed the 150km Snow-Camp Everest Challenge in Portes du Soleil, France, raising money for Snow-Camp, one of the UK’s most innovative youth charities. The Challenge (27th – 30th January 2011) covered over 15 resorts from its base in Morzine, and ran over 48 hours including a night skiing session and a mountain night hike.
This annual endurance event, sponsored by Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports, gives snow sport enthusiasts the opportunity to fundraise for Snow-Camp by doing something they love to do, skiing or snowboarding, but like they have never done before.
This year’s participants included a 12-strong team from Norton Rose LLP. Their team was led by London based partners Jeff Barratt and Nick Prowse. Jeff Barratt commented: “We’ve been supporting Snow-Camp as part of our Together for Sport initiative since the start of 2010. Covering such a big distance in two days in those conditions was a truly daunting prospect. Snow-Camp deserves every bit of support we can give it though. It truly is a worthy charity, bringing a huge lift to every one of the young people it works with. The opportunities Snow-Camp provides, and the confidence they are able to give some of these young people, is really impressive. Worth every one of the 150km!”

Snow-Camp Director, Dan Charlish, said “Events like the Everest Challenge are becoming increasingly important in supporting the work of Snow-Camp. They enable us to expand the programmes we run by raising much needed funds and also introduce the charity to a whole new group of future supporters and their friends. We were so lucky to get such a fantastic group of people on this years event – they were all so motivated and up for the challenge. Despite the relentless skiing, boarding and night hike activities, there was also always plenty of jokes and laughter and a fantastic team spirit. We have had so much positive feedback from everyone about the Challenge – we are already planning next years!
Snow-Camp worked closely with Base Camp to ensure the Challenge ran smoothly and was a memorable experience for all involved – Fergie Miller, Base Camp Director, said, ‘We have really enjoyed working with Snow-Camp and have been a supporter of the charity for some time – we encourage everyone to get involved next year in what is a fantastic event!’
The Everest Challenge 2012 is now being planned and is open to individuals and teams! If you would like to get involved please contact Snow-Camp on [email protected] or call Dan on 01273 241383
