Snowsport England’s 'GO SKI GO BOARD' grows!
As the winter season draws to a close, figures from Snowsport England’s GO SKI GO BOARD campaign indicates that there are still healthy numbers of people taking up skiing and snowboarding, or coming back to snowsports in England.
Figures show that in January and February 2015, 14,537 people took part in a GO SKI GO BOARD session at slopes and clubs across the country and 12,994 people took a GO SKI GO BOARD course that was 5 hours or longer*.
This is after 19, 350 people were involved in a one off GO SKI GO BOARD session and 17,606 in a course 5 hours or longer* in 2014 (January – December). In 2013, 10,000 took a GO SKI GO BOARD session between April – December (reporting started in April).
These figures are both positive for Snowsports England and the GO SKI GO BOARD campaign, but also indicative of what is a healthy time for indoor and artificial snow slopes in this country.
Swadlincote Ski Slope and Snowboard Centre in Derbyshire has reported its busiest ever winter, in skiing and snowboarding and other on slope activities such as tobogganing. They have also seen excellent take up for GO SKI GO BOARD sessions. Centre Manager Kelly Grewcock said of the winter season: “Our centre has been busy all winter with people getting ready for their snowsports holidays before going away, and we are delighted that this has been one of our busiest ever winter seasons. As well as a good uptake for skiing and snowboarding, some milder weather has also helped the other slope activities like sno-tubes and tobogganing."
Tim Fawke, Chief Executive of Snowsport England said of the GO SKI GO BOARD figures: “Over the winter season we have heard lots of positive stories from the slopes and clubs we work with. Combined with the GO SKI GO BOARD figures from January and February, there is a positive feeling about snowsports participation in this country. We are delighted with the take up of GO SKI GO BOARD sessions by the general public, as well as specialist groups such as schools and colleges. We are also pleased with the support given to the campaign by the slopes and clubs. We look forward to seeing the next set of GO SKI GO BOARD figures which will be available in June, along with the next Slopetracker report, just ahead of our Clubs and Facilities Conference, which takes place in Loughborough on 2nd June.”
