THE SCORPIONS ROCK 13,000 FANS TO TOP ISCHGL’S BIGGEST EVER SEASON OPENING FESTIVAL
The 2012-13 ski season has got off to a sensational start in the energetic ski resort of Ischgl in the Austrian Tirol, with 13,000 rock fans turning out at the weekend for an open air concert by the Scorpions, the biggest-ever German rock band.
Ischgl’s Festival Opening Week, in conjunction with sponsors Volkswagen, was launched by Scottish singer Amy Macdonald on 24 November, the first weekend of the new season. DJ Antoine and wingenfelder:Wingenfelder performed mid-week concerts and the Scorpions triumphed on Saturday 1 December.

Said Tourist Director Andreas Steibl: “With their performance, the Scorpions provided a brilliant finish to the Festival Opening Week, which was a real success and the biggest opening to the season ever.”
Skiers and boarders now have a full five months of snow-sure skiing and snowboarding ahead on Ischgl’s extensive 238kms of pisted runs, punctuated by events on the mountain and in the village, such as the Shapes in White snow sculpture contest, World Rookie snowboard finals, Heroes Challenge, Chefs Cup, Easter Concert and Top Of The Mountain closing concert on 30 April 2013.
Ischgl’s neighbouring villages of Galtür and Kappl open on 7 and 14 December respectively.
