Youth Charity Snow-Camp are looking for 25 teams of snowsports enthusiasts to enter their Snow-Camp Rally 2012. “The closest thing you’ll get to the Gumball Rally in the UK”
Ed Leigh (BBC presenter)
To ski or board the 5 indoor snow centres in England in a full-on 12 hours! The team who completes the most runs collectively across the 5 snow centres will be crowned Snow-Camp Rally Champions 2012 and win a huge trophy, a week’s stay in an apartment in Val D’Isere and a Heliski experience for their top fundraiser!
Kicking off from Hemel Snow Centre, each team of 4 must ride each of the countries snow centres before returning back to Hemel Hempstead within the allotted time. Each slope will be ridden in order, with an agreed time slot in which to cram as many runs as possible before moving on to the next slope!
Supported by Snowsport England and BUSC (British Universities Snowsports Council) and with the backing of all 5 snow centres (Sno!zone Milton Keynes, Sno!Zone Castleford, Chill Factore Manchester, The Snowdome Tamworth and Hemel Snow Centre) this event is open to any keen skiers or boarders who want to get a team together for the Challenge!

Snow-Camp’s Events Manager Dan Keeley said, ‘the Rally has been re-launched as a one day event to make it easier for teams to participate and enabling much more free slope time! The support from the snow centres was essential, and we are delighted to have all of them onboard, ensuring a fantastic event which promises to deliver some amazing memories for everyone involved.’
With 415 miles of tarmac standing in their way, 5 slopes to visit and just a 45 minutes time-slot at each slope to ride as many runs as possible, this is no easy challenge! Once teams arrive back at Hemel, results will be sorted out in time for the après-ski themed after-party from 9pm until midnight, hosted by Snow-Camps partners/sponsors! The prize giving for the Snow-Camp Rally Champions 2012 and Top Fundraisers will take place at the party, along with loads of other giveaways and promotions.
The annual event aims to generate at least £20,000 for Snow-Camp’s work supporting disadvantaged inner-city young people through the use of snowsports and life skills programmes. The charity reports the government cuts and the recession have made funds harder to access over recent years, and that events like the Rally have become essential for raising funds needed to support Snow-Camp’s work with inner city young people.

Quotes from sponsors and supporters:
“A great opportunity for those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to enjoy mountain sports. We are pleased to be working in partnership with Snow-Camp”
“Despite the fact that we have some fantastic indoor and outdoor skiing facilities across the country, taking to the slopes is still something not everyone gets the opportunity to do. That’s why Snow-Camp’s programmes are such an important and exiting opportunity for young people. We at Sport England hope that our support for this programme will mean more young people can get involved in, and stay part of, an exiting sport.”
“A fantastic initiative for disadvantaged young people – The Ski Club of Great Britain completely supports Snow-Camp.”
“Ellis Brigham are proud to be able to support Snow-Camp and enable more young individuals to enjoy skiing and snowboarding.”
