TRINDER & SILKSTONE TAKE FIRST AT BRITS SLOPESTYLE

Fri 04 Apr 14
The Brits Jamie Trinder

The final day of the British Snowboard Championships saw riders battling against each other and the elements today in the Trespass British Slopestyle Championship.

Under grey skies and in less than favourable conditions, it was Jamie Trinder (19) and Nathalie Silkstone (17) who triumphed over their competitors and Mother Nature, taking home the glory, the cash and the gold medals.

As the wind picked up during practice, the decision was made to remove the topmost, and windiest, kicker from the course. A shame after the Tignes park shapers had done an incredible job, but seen the safest way of running the contest by both the riders and officials. This left the still formidable setup of 2 huge kickers and 3 technical rail zones to test the field.

Once the riders did take to the course, the healthy field of over 50 riders were still able to absolutely throw down. On the men's side, it was Jamie Trinder leading the way as he took his second title and third podium of the week. His first and winning run was an absolute stunner, starting off with a 50-50 to back 3 off the flat rail, then sending it "super deep" over the kickers with a back 3 on the first and a frontside 720 off the toes on the second. He then sealed the deal through the final rail section with a gap to lipslide and a boardslide through the up-flat kink box. Just behind Trinder in 2nd was Henry Shackelton (19) who threw down a sick half cab 50-50 to tailgrab off the flat rail and a backside 7 over the biggest kicker on course. Another man stacking up the podium finishes was yesterday's Trespass Halfpipe champion, Lewis Courtier-Jones (18), who took 3rd with a "real steezy" run including a huge frontside 7.

Happy with his win Jamie mentioned: "I've won £1500 at The BRITS this week - it's been amazing. The conditions today were really bad so I was just happy to get a run down"

In the women's contest, halfpipe runner up Nathalie Silkstone went one better to take the top spot. Silkstone's winning run was packed with technicality and style, and included a nose press on the top box, nose grab over first kicker, backside 3, nose slide in the first rail zone, and a boardslide to fakie on the bottom rail.  Ayla Thidling (14) was back on the podium for the 3rd time this week, grabbing the silver with a styled out method over the first kicker. Closing out the podium was Amelia Fisher (29) who put together some of the most technical rail zones in the women's category, and hitting features only used by the top level men.

Natalie stoked on her win said: "I was really scared after yesterdays fall and so I nearly didn't enter but I'm so happy that I did."

Throughout the afternoon there were standout performances across the field, including eleven year old Gabriel Adams. Head judge Andy Mills described Adams as a 'wonder-kid' after he chucked a back 3 into front 1 through the kicker section. Ayla Thidling's brother Max (18) showed that steeze ran in the family as he put together a run that was destined for the podium before an unfortunate slam ended it, but not before he could throw an enormous frontside 360 stalefish. Once again the local riders were out in force and brought a fan club to line the course, Chris Bratt's (29) back 5 was the highlight from the Espace Killy regulars.
