Volkl Split & Freerirde Camps return in 2015
together with Volkl Snowboards and Blue Tomato, former Freeride World Tour Winner Aline Bock and Event Manager Pia Schroeter will be organizing the Volkl Split & Freerirde Camps in 2015 again.
In the last few winters many snowboarders have learned to appreciate the advantages of splitboarding! With splitboarding, snowboarders can find better touring routes and new ways to explore the most remote backcountry areas and access new uncharted territory. With the Volkl Split & Freeride Camps it does not matter if you are a splitboard beginner or experienced rider, everyone can find exactly the right adventure for his or her individual riding level. Those new to Splitboarding will learn how to handle the gear, tour, hike and ride with their splitboard starting with tours of around 500 height of meters a day. All advanced and pro splitboarders looking for the ultimate experience in high altitude, can look forward to hikes around 1.000 height of metres daily, abseiling into steep descents and riding challenging big mountain faces that will definitely deliver the perfect adrenaline kick!

All participants will have the opportunity to test the new Volkl Untrac splitboard 2014/2015. Deeluxe will be offering special freeride boots to try out as well as Marker bringing helmets and goggles for free demo. Ortovox provides the entire safety equipment kit. There will be avalanche transceivers, shovels and probe-poles for all camps with a bonus of being able to try out the ABS Airbag System backpacks. Blue Tomato is giving out free goodie bags full of surprises and shopping vouchers to all campers.
The first camp will go down in February at the Axamer LIzum. Only 19 km away from the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck, Axamer Lizum is one of the most popular home resorts of Innsbruck´s freeriding scene. The Axamer Lizum is a perfect resort with great snow conditions at 2.340 meters above sea level and it´s unique scenery being just a stone´s throw from Innsbruck. The famous mountain range of the so-called Kalkkoegel opens up countless lines to make your backcountry dreams of steep and deep runs come true! The mountain cabin Kemater Alm at the bottom of the Kalkkoegel is the perfect home-base for expeditions.
Camp two will take place in late February at the Hintertux Glacier. As Austria´s only all-year-round ski area, Hintertux Glacier scores with the best snow conditions. The high alpine cabin camp will be based at the Diggl Freeride Farm. This camp is only for advanced freeriders who are able to splitboard up to heights between 800 to 1.000 meters a day. That being said, all riders should know that their efforts will be rewarded with great turns!

With the Powder Department, Austria´s greatest glacier ski resort, the Stubai Glacier, offers a great variety of freeride runs and off-piste tracks in high alpine terrain. For the third camp, local mountain guides from the Freeridecenter Stubai will stand for unforgettable adventures in the backcountry of the Stubai Alpes. Theory workshops to raise avalanche awareness and risk management are also on the schedule of this novice camp as the practical training for emergency situations in searching, probing shoveling and rescuing.
Splitboarders participating in the season´s final camp in the Powder Department at Stubai Glacier should be in excellent shape. During this three day camp, the advanced group will make 800 to 1.000 height meters or more in one day. With or without rappelling down into steep faces and couloirs, the riders will access untouched lines and versatile backcountry terrain. Just in time for the end of the season, we will open the throttle one more time!
At both Stubai Glacier Camps the campers will check in at the freeride friendly 4**** Hotel Stubaierhof Neustift. After long days on the mountain, there will be enough time for wellness and culinary highlights in the evenings.
