WHISTLER MOUNTAIN OPENS WITH FIVE LIFTS Nov 11
With almost 30cm of new snow in the last two days and up to 80cm forecasted by Tuesday, Whistler Mountain opens more than 2,350 vertical feet.
WHISTLER, BC, November 18, 2011 - Whistler Mountain opened, six days early, for the 2011.2012 winter season. Over 2,350 vertical feet of skiing and riding is available from five lifts; Whistler Village Gondola, Creekside Gondola, Emerald Express, Big Red Express and Franz Chair. A collection of six jib park features are open at the top of the Emerald Chair. Blackcomb Mountain will be opening on November 24th, Whistler Blackcomb’s official opening day.
Whistler Mountain received 29 cm of snow in the last 48 hours and 55-80cm more is expected by Tuesday. The base at Pig Alley is currently 70cm and rising. With early season conditions it is extra important all mountain signage is obeyed and guests stay within the marked operational boundary. With early season snow-pack, guests should be aware of rocks and other hazards below the snow surface. Mandatory downloading via the Whistler Village Gondola or Creekside Gondola is in effect.
Freeskier Mike Douglas’ last day on the mountain is today. Check out his videos as he documents the days before opening at www.whistlerblackcomb.com/embedded

Major riding for all styles and all levels, especially backcountry and amazing park and pipes. But take note: lift queues can be very long, especially at Easter and Christmas. Avoid major holidays if an option and Sundays are quieter than Saturdays, especially on Blackcomb. Great summer riding on Blackcomb Glacier.
