Mt Baker, USA

Resort life

Riders who like everything on their doorstep will not be happy as the only facility at the base is a car park. Baker is not a gimmick, so you do have to put yourself out which is another reason why it's so good. The slopes of Mt Baker are located 17 miles from the main local services which can be found in the low-key town of Glacier, a simple and unspoilt place. Local services may be a bit thin on the ground, but don't let that put you off. What is offered is cheap and damn good value, making a week or even two, well worth the trip up. The town of Bellingham, just over an hour away has an even greater selection of lodgings, sporting facilities and other visitor attractions.

Eating

The options for getting a meal on the slopes or down in Glacier may be a bit limited in terms of choices of restaurants, but what is available will do nicerly. During the day you can pig out on the slopes at the White Salmon Day Lodge which has very reasonable rates. The new Raven Hot cafe has fast become a major day time hangout whilst also serving up some wicked food. Down in Glacier, Milano's Cafe is the place to check out, where they do great pasta dishes.

Nightlife

One of the beautys of this place is it's laid back atmosphere, which applies equally to the night life in Glacier, the perfect snowboard scene-laid back and cool. There is no hype, no apres-ski crap and no gits in silly hats playing party games. What you get is basic, offering a good laugh and messy late night drinking sessions, resulting in some killer hangovers.

Accomodation

Accommodation is only possible down in Glacier which has a number of options at very reasonable prices. Cool places to contact for a bed, are Glacier Creek Lodge, Mt Baker B&B, Diamond Ridge B&B or a condo at the Mt Baker Chalets & Condos.
