Serre Chevalier, France

Top resort. Top value. Top times.

Rated 8 out of 10 Went in 07 for a week and really enjoyed it. A pretty quiet, laid-back sort of a place that doesn't feel too resorty or commercial. Good mix of runs with some fine, easily accessible off piste. Powder hounds should aim to ride as high as you can in Villeneuve and Monetier for the best stashes. Agree some of the lifts are a bit knackered and slow tho. Also, maybe not the best for beginners too as runs down to the resort a little narrow and steep in places.

FANTASTIC RESORT

Mon 10 September 2007 Darren
Rated 8 out of 10 Been there two times now. 1st time stayed in Monetier which had loads of nice tree lined runs. The village was very very quiet though. 2nd time stayed in Villeneuve right next to the grotte de yeti pub. This was a much better town to stay in with lots of bars and a really nice atmosphere.

The riding area is massive and each of the three main areas has a distinctly different feel to it. I really liked the Monetier end of the resort but the central area is much more lively with a couple of parks and a boardercross run. the 1st time we went there was loads of snow and there is easily accessible off piste areas all over the place. 2nd time we went was in March 07 and there was not that much fresh snow around. In fact it was so hot it was like being on the beach! Nevertheless, the pistes were still in good condition.

Bits I was not so keen on......... * a bit pricey * Can seem a bit spread out at times * Some of the lifts are getting a bit old

without a doubt this is the best resort I have been to.

Rated 8 out of 10 i spent the season in serre che and although the snow was dissopointing this year the terrain was awesome. you can spend the whole season there and still be discovering new bits all the time. the nightlife was fairly quiet but there is a real good atmosphere, full of people who are all about the boarding and not just about getting drunk (although this is very important) or showing off their shiny new burton on the slopes.

The best in France

Rated 10 out of 10 10 / 10: They're not wrong

Serre Chevalier is one of the best resorts I've been to.

It was the first resort I went to in France, and now I compare all others to it, having been to Tignes, Val D'Isere, Chamonix (overrated) & Risoul.

Huge range of pistes and ski area, wicked off piste. Inexpensive. Friendly, not too commercial.
